Ave Maria in the Afternoon – December 13, 2024 – Hour 2

We unpack the Sunday readings with Rob Corzine, looking at John the Baptist’s promise of one who is coming to baptize with the Spirit. Also, Stan Butt joins us with spiritual meditations from Les Miserables.

“I am baptizing you with water, but one mightier than I is coming”

This Sunday’s Gospel continues the story of John the Baptist, whose followers begin to ask if he might be the Christ. He responds that he is merely baptizing them with water, while another mightier than he will baptize with the fire of the Holy Spirit. We unpack the readings with Rob Corzine.

Rob Corzine is Vice President of Academic Programs for the St. Paul Center for Biblical Theology.

Spiritual Meditations from Les Misérables

As he mentioned earlier this week, Marcus recently saw Les Misérables on stage for the first time and has been profoundly impacted by the performance and story. The story is filled with rich, dynamic characters and Christian themes that help illustrate the Gospel. Pastor Stan Butt joins us.

Stan is an author and former pastor. He works with various nonprofits and governments in middle Tennessee and Alabama. He is a doctoral student at Faulkner University and is researching The Evangelical Literary Imagination and The Didactic Uses of Myth. He is the author of several books on Christian doctrine and of A Year With Cosette: 365 Spiritual Meditations from Les Miserables which he hopes to see published in 2025.
