Daniel Philpott is Professor of Political Science at the University of Notre Dame. His books include Just and Unjust Peace: An Ethic of Political Reconciliation, Strategies of Peace: Transforming Conflict in a Violent World and Religious Freedom in Islam: The Fate of a Universal Human Right in the Muslim World Today. His research focuses on religion and global politics, emphasizing reconciliation and religious freedom. He also organized a symposium of theologians, therapists, church leaders, lawyers, and survivors of abuse to discuss the Church's ongoing response to the crisis. Visit arcoftheuniverse.info.

Trump Assassination Attempt – What went wrong with security?

The attempted assassination of then-candidate Donald Trump in July is arguably the biggest story of the last year, and the photo of a bloodied Trump defiantly raising a fist became an iconic part of his campaign. The US Secret Service was heavily criticized for allowing the shooter to get so close, leading to Director Kimberly Cheatle’s resignation several days later. We look back on a conversation with Tim Miller, a veteran of the Secret Service, joins us.

 

Timothy Miller is the President and Founder of Lionheart International Services Group, which provides security consulting and training for corporations, churches and schools. He has 30 years of experience in law enforcement and served as a Secret Service Special Agent assigned to the Washington front office. Fulton Sheen’s Thoughts on the Demonic

In 1974, Archbishop Fulton J. Sheen stated that he intended to write a book about the demonic. But such a book never came to fruition. Now, some fifty years later, Sheen’s intended book has finally been compiled, all in his own words, thanks to the efforts of Fr. Dave Tomaszycki. He joins us.

Fr Dave Tomaszycki serves as priest secretary for Archbishop Allen Vigneron. He is the editor of On the Demonic, a collection of writings by Archbishop Fulton Sheen.
