Malta Minute with the Catechism: Why Did God Do It?

  • Program #: 50
  • Description: Why did God the Father permit his only Son to endure such torture, humiliation and death for such an unworthy and ungrateful group as we humans? It is probably the greatest mystery of all times. The only explanations are love and justice, the Catholic Catechism tells us. The Father so loved his creatures He gave up his only Son to the Cross to redeem us and to reconcile us to Himself. The Son loved us enough to freely offer up his life to the Father as a redemptive and reconciling act making him both the Paschal Sacrifice ..."the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world" and the "sacrifice of the New Covenant which restores man to communion with God." Justice enters the scene because man's disobedience required a monumental and unique sacrifice that only the Son of God made man could achieve. This is Peggy Stanton and this has been the Order of Malta's Minute with the Catechism.
