Malta Minute with the Catechism: What is Truth?

  • Program #: 210
  • Description: “What is truth” Pontius Pilate asked Jesus, not realizing that he was looking at Truth. Jesus Christ IS the truth and the SOURCE of all truth. The Catholic Catechism states that “man tends by nature toward the truth and that he is obliged to honor and bear witness to it. Thomas Aquinas asserts, “Men could not live together if there were not mutual confidence that they were being truthful with one another.” Truth entails both honesty and discretion; between what ought to be expressed and what ought to be kept secret. Jesus told Pilate that he had come into the world to “bear witness to the truth.” Thus, the Catechism states, “....in situations that require witness to the truth of Jesus, a Christian must profess it without equivocation, even at the sacrifice of their life.” This is Peggy Stanton and this has been the Order of Malta’s Minute with the Catechism.
