Malta Minute with the Catechism: The Catholic Church and Non-Christians

  • Program #: 21
  • Description: How are the People of God...the Church...related to religions who have yet to receive the Gospel? According to the Catholic Catechism, the Church is linked to the Jewish religion. The Jews were the first to hear the word of God. The Jewish faith is already a response to God's revelation in the Old Covenant. To the Jews, belong the Patriarchs, the sonship, the giving of the Law, the worship and the promises. Of their race, according to the flesh, is the Christ, for "the gifts," says the Catechism, "and the call of God are irrevocable." The Muslims are related to the Church in that they acknowledge the Creator, profess to hold the faith of Abraham and adore the one merciful God, mankind's judge on the last day. The Church's bond with other non-Christian religions stems from the common belief in the origin and end of the human race, which in both cases is our Creator-God. This is Peggy Stanton and this has been the Order of Malta's Minute with the Catechism.
