Description: Why is Sacrifice an important part of worship? The Catholic Catechism tells us that it is right and good to offer sacrifice to God as a sign of adoration, gratitude, supplication and communion. What is the sacrifice most pleasing to God? Psalm 51 says, "it is a broken spirit." What does that mean? Paragraph 2100 of the Catechism counsels, outward sacrifice, to be genuine, must be an expression of inward, spiritual sacrifice. Old Covenant prophets denounced sacrifices that were not from the heart, or not coupled with love of neighbor. The one perfect sacrifice was Jesus' agony and death on the Cross. By uniting ourselves with the Lord's sacrifice, we can make our lives a sacrifice to God. This is Peggy Stanton and this has been the Order of Malta's Minute with the Catechism.
