Description: There is essentially one true Priest, says the Catholic Catechism, and that is Jesus Christ. All others are his ministers. There is the common priesthood in which all of the baptized faithful participate, according to their vocation. Bishops and priests make up the ministerial priesthood which is essentially at the service of the common or baptismal priesthood - the faithful. Jesus is the one, unique mediator between God the Father and the faithful. With a single offering, he brought about salvation, once and for all. Still, that sacrifice is made present through the celebration of the Mass. "Christ is made present through the ministerial priesthood without diminishing the uniqueness of his own priesthood." This is Peggy Stanton and this has been the Order of Malta's Minute with the Catechism.
