Description: Jesus has great respect for the temple in Jerusalem, according to the Catholic Catechism. It was the special dwelling of his Father where he could do and commune with him. Though he was God himself, he was perfectly willing to pay the temple tax. And yet, he foretold the destruction of the temple, a time when there would not remain a stone upon a stone." Jesus, who was the ultimate dwelling place, the bodily temple of God, in enduring the death of that body, foretold the destruction of the temple. This, the Catholic Catechism says, would "manifest the dawning of a new age in the history of salvation." The Lord declared, "The hour is coming when neither on the mountain nor in Jerusalem, will you worship the Father."
