Description: Many graces are bestowed by the Holy Spirit during the Sacrament of the sick, according to the Catholic Catechism. Many of which, we may not be aware. The first grace is one of strengthening peace and courage to the patient in order that he or she may overcome the difficulties of serious illness or the frailty of old age. It helps to guard the sick person against the temptations of the devil to discouragement and anguish in the face of death. The grace is meant to lead to a healing of soul and the body as well if the latter be the will of God. The sick person's sins will be forgiven if he or she is not able to obtain forgiveness through the sacrament of penance. The patient also receives the grace to unite himself or herself to the passion of Christ for his or her own good and that of the whole Church.
