Description: Where did the Catholic Church get the office of Bishop? From Jesus who was the emissary of the Father. He said he did nothing except through the Father. As he was the Father's emissary, the Apostles were his emissaries whom he specifically commissioned to carry on his mission. As Jesus could do nothing without the Father, the apostles could no nothing without him. He was the vine. They were the branches. One aspect of the Apostle's office could not be transmitted and that was their witness to the resurrection. They were the foundation stones of the Church. Their office had a permanent aspect. The Divine Mission entrusted by Christ was designated by him to continue to the end of time. The apostles, therefore, designated successors and those successors designated their successors. These are the Bishops. This is Peggy Stanton and this has been the Order of Malta's Minute with the Catechism.
