Description: How often should one go to confession? The Catholic Catechism tells us that priests are to encourage the faithful to come to the sacrament of penance and must make themselves available to celebrate the sacrament whenever Christians reasonably ask for it. There are certain sins so grave that they incur excommunication which "impedes the reception of the sacraments and the exercise of certain ecclesiastical acts and for which absolution cannot be granted, according to canon law, except by the Pope, the bishop of the place - or priests authorized by them." If the penitent is in danger of death, any priest, even if deprived of faculties for the rite of confession, can absolve from every sin and excommunication. This is Peggy Stanton and this has been the Order of Malta's Minute with the Catechism.
