Description: What does the Catechism tell us about prophecies in the Old Testament, concerning a Messiah? The Old Testament, according to the Catechism, foretold the coming of a Messiah on whom the Spirit of the Lord would rest. When God spoke after John the Baptist baptized Jesus in the Jordan River, this was the sign that the Messiah had arrived and that Jesus was he. The fullness of the Spirit was not only to rest on the Messiah, but was to be communicated to the whole Messianic people. Jesus, on several occasions, promised this outpouring of the Spirit and the promise was fulfilled on Easter Sunday and more visibly on Pentecost. The laying on of hands in the sacrament of Confirmation in a certain way perpetuates the grace of Pentecost. This is Peggy Stanton and this has been the Order of Malta's Minute with the Catechism.
