Malta Minute with the Catechism: Artificial Contraception—Breaking the Bond

  • Program #: 98
  • Description: What is wrong with artificial birth control? The Catholic Catechism explains that it unnaturally breaks the bond between the two essential elements of the conjugal act; the unitive and the procreative. The unitive element is the mutual self giving of the spouses to one another. The procreative element is the openness to the act's potential and natural end - Life. The truth of marital love is falsified when we separate what God has decreed as inherent and inseparable to the marriage act. We don't unnaturally separate eating from its natural end -nourishment. When we wish to control our weight, we abstain from food. Thus, if, for just reasons, we wish to control birth during a fertile period, we should abstain from sexual relations. In an age of ecological awareness, Church approved natural family planning which is healthy and free is cause for environmental applause. This is Peggy Stanton and this has been the Order of Malta's Minute with the Catechism.
