Kresta in the Afternoon – October 19, 2007 – Hour 1

  • Description:

First Topic – Vatican publishes Knights Templar papers

Ignored for centuries, documents about the heresy trial of the ancient Christian order of the Knights Templar, discovered in the Vatican's secret archives, are being published in a limited edition — with an $8,377 price tag. They include a 14th-century parchment showing that Pope Clement V initially absolved the Templar leaders of heresy, though he did find them guilty of immorality and planned to reform the order, according to the Vatican archives Web site. We examine it with medieval scholar Sandra Miesel.

Second Topic – AIDS work in Zimbabwe

Dr. Dawn Reeler is a medical doctor doing family practice in Zimbabwe. It is there that she is on the front line of the battle against HIV AIDS. We talk about AIDS in Africa, condoms, NFP and more.

Third Topic – “The 10 Commandments”

Quick. Name each of the Ten Commandments. OK. Now name the ingredients in a Big Mac hamburger sold at McDonald's. According to a new survey, the Big Mac wins the memory contest. The survey of 1,000 Americans was undertaken to help promote the new animated movie "The Ten Commandments," which opened on 700 screens nationwide today. Catholic screenwriter Ed Naha joins us.
