Kresta in the Afternoon – October 1, 2007 – Hour 1

  • Description:

First Topic – Mainstream media getting the Catholic story wrong

In the past week, no fewer than five national stories focusing on the Catholic Church have contained statements of fact that are so far from the truth it is appalling. Al looks at how and why the mainstream media gets its reporting on the Church so drastically wrong.

Second Topic – “Divorced from Reality”

The NY Times reports that there is a great marriage myth out there. That great myth about divorce is that marital breakup is an increasing threat to American families, with each generation finding their marriages less stable than those of their parents. Marriage expert Maggie Gallagher tells us if the Times is on point with these claims.

Third Topic – Pope: Climate Action a “Moral Obligation”

Do Pope Benedict XVI and environmentalists really have much in common? On a superficial level, it could seem so. Kishore Jayabalan argues that the when the pope discusses the environment, it’s always in relation to man’s duty to God, not to some pretty tree. We look at the Pope and environmentalism with the man who worked for years at the Pontifical Council for Justice and Peace as the Holy See's analyst on sustainable development and arms control.
