A proposed law in MA is causing a lot of controversy this week. Should spanking be illegal? Some lawmakers want to ban parents from spanking their children, even in their own homes. They say it's just one more way to protect kids from abuse. But many parents say it's government run amuck. We debate corporal punishment.
Second Topic – The Future of Cable – Is A La Carte The Answer?
The Federal Communications Commission has backed away from an effort by its chairman to impose new regulations on the cable television industry. At the heart of the debate is a proposal to force cable companies to offer a la carte programming, under which you would only receive – and only pay for – those channels that you select. Although the FCC has avoided a showdown yesterday, the issue is far from dead in the water. We look at both sides of this difficult question.
Third Topic – A Path to Peace or Another Failed Attempt?
As would-be peacemakers bask in the international limelight of the Annapolis conference, back in the Middle East two other parties are serving up notice that no deal will come to pass, if they can help it: Iran and its Palestinian ally, Hamas. Can they succeed in derailing any progress that was made this week in Annapolis? We talk to a man who was there.
