Second Topic - Facebook plan to let kids join site finds resistance
Facebook is looking to tap a new market: kids. The social media giant is developing technology that would allow children younger than 13 - now banned - to use the site under parental supervision. But the idea is meeting much resistance. Jim Steyer, author of Talking Back to Facebook: The Common Sense Guide to Raising Kids in the Digital Age, says now, more than ever, parents need help in navigating their kids' online, media-saturated lives. He joins us as doe Pam Stenzel, author of Who's In Your Social Network?: Understanding the Risks Associated with Modern Media and Social Networking and How it Can Impact Your Character and Relationships. She makes the case that many discover too late that uncritical participation can lead to distorted relationships and even stunted personal character.
