Kresta in the Afternoon – June 29, 2007 – Hour 1

  • Description:

First Topic - Supreme Court rejects school race plans
The Supreme Court this week rejected integration plans in two major
public school districts but left the door open for using race to assign
students in limited circumstances. The decision in cases affecting
schools in Louisville, Ky., and Seattle could imperil similar plans in
hundreds of districts nationwide, and it further restricts how public
school systems may attain racial diversity. The court split, 5-4, with
Chief Justice John Roberts announcing the court's judgment. The court's
four liberal justices dissented. John McWhorter of the Manahattan
Institute says it was a victory for equality. He joins us.

Second Topic - Catholic And Loving It
You're Catholic and loving it, but when it comes to really celebrating
your faith, do things get a bit more vague? Our next guests say the time
has come for a new generation to reclaim their Catholic heritage,
including many of the practices and prayers that have enriched the
Church for centuries. Sabitha Narendran and Andrew Salzman are the
authors of Catholic and Loving It and are here to help you celebrate
Christ through all the days, weeks, and months of the year.
