+ Is it “Welcoming” to Call Homosexual Acts Sinful?
- Description: The Vatican confirmed yesterday that Pope Francis has appointed Bishop Heiner Koch of Dresden-Meissen as Archbishop of Berlin. Bishop Koch is also involved in preparations for the Synod on the Family being held in Rome in October, and joins Cardinal Reinhard Marx and Bishop Franz-Josef Bode who will represent Germany at the synod. In a February interview with a German newspaper, Bishop Koch called for changes in the pastoral care of homosexuals, saying that to “portray homosexuality as a sin is hurtful,” adding that the Church “needs a different language when it comes to homosexuals … I know gay couples who value reliability and commitment and live these in an exemplary manner.” We talk about it with Matthew Bunson.

+ Common Core Turns 5: Concerns Remain for Catholic Schools
- Description: “G.K. Chesterton once wisely suggested that a child should not be subjected to an educational philosophy younger than he is. Such wisdom would relegate the Common Core to preschool—and a public preschool at that, but certainly not America’s Catholic schools.” Those are the words of Dr Dan Guernsey from The National Association of Private Catholic and Independent Schools. Five years after the official release of the Common Core State Standards on June 2, 2010, Dan joins us to review the issue and discuss if it is possible to use parts of the Common Core in isolation in Catholic schools.
