Kresta in the Afternoon – June 11, 2007 – Hour 1

  • Description:

    First Topic- Kresta Grab Bag

Cardinal Pell is once again in the crosshairs of secularists as a political cartoon run in Australia suggesting that his stances equate to telling all Catholics to “put your brain in the trash” and memorize a book entitled “What the Pope Says.” Also, Paris Hilton has said from the confines of jail that when she gets out she wants to drop what she calls the “act” of being immature and dumb. She says “God has given me this new chance…my soul did not like the way I was…God has released me.” We look at it.

    Second TopicFeast of St. Barnabas

Barnabas, a Jew of Cyprus, comes as close as anyone outside the Twelve to being a full-fledged apostle. He was closely associated with St. Paul (he introduced Paul to Peter and the other apostles) and served as a kind of mediator between the former persecutor and the still suspicious Jewish Christians. We celebrate his feast day with Steve Ray.

    Third Topic- Haditha Case Continues

Through three combat deployments in Iraq, a Bronze Star and numerous combat ribbons, Lt. Col. Jeffrey Chessani's Marine Corps career has been defined, it seems, by terrorist bombs. In November 2005, Chessani was a battalion commander in Haditha, Iraq, when a roadside bomb planted by Sunni insurgents killed one of his marines and wounded two others. Infantrymen under his command, seeking to engage the enemy, instead killed 24 civilians. Last year, the Marine Corps charged Chessani and three other officers with dereliction of duty for failing to investigate the episode properly and relieved him of his command. His attorney, Brian Rooney of the Thomas More Law Center has been at Camp Pendelton all this week defending him from these charges. He joins us.
