Kresta in the Afternoon – July 5, 2007 – Hour 2

  • Description:

First Topic – Axis of Unity Against U.S

Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez, a regular hater of the U.S., is taking advantage of Iran’s anti-U.S. sentiment. Reuters reports:  “Chavez told his Iranian counterpart on Sunday the two oil-rich states, which have forged close ties in opposition to the United States, should cooperate to defeat imperialism.” Hugo’s proposal to cooperate closely with Iran comes at a frightening time as the U.S. accuses Iran’s leadership of stoking Iraq violence. Dr. Samuel Gregg of the Acton Institute is with us to analyze the situation.

Second Topic – Best Children’s Book of the Last 70 Years???

Philip Pullman's “Northern Lights” has been named the best children's book of the past 70 years. A public vote selected the book from a list of past winners of the Carnegie Medal for Children's Literature. Who is Philip Pullman? Well, the Catholic Herald described his work as “worthy of the bonfire” and another Catholic reviewer said “In the world of Pullman, God Himself is a merciless tyrant, His Church is an instrument of oppression, and true heroism consists of overthrowing both.” We look at the work of Philip Pullman.
