Kresta in the Afternoon – July 23, 2012 – Hour 1

  • Description:

First Topic - Kresta Comments - Movie Massacre in Aurora

Second Topic - Penn State Gets Devastating Sanctions from NCAA

The NCAA on Monday announced a series of unprecedented sanctions against the Penn State football program for its involvement in the sexual abuse scandal that centered on former coach Jerry Sandusky. The penalties include a $60 million fine, a four-year postseason ban, an annual reduction of 10 scholarships over a four-year period and five years of probation. One purely punitive measure - all of Penn State's wins from 1998 to 2011 have been vacated, which means that Joe Paterno, who oversaw the Nittany Lions' football program for nearly 46 years, no longer is the sport's all-time winningest coach. We talk to Catholic ABC sports reporter and news anchor Vic Faust.

Third Topic - National NFP Awareness Week

Were you aware that yesterday kicked off Natural Family Planning Awareness Week? Every year, the Natural Family Planning Program of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops sponsors an NFP Awareness Week to coincide with the anniversary of the promulgation of Humanae Vitae, Pope Paul VI's encyclical reaffirming the traditional Catholic teaching on birth control, on July 25, 1968. We talk to Dr. Dan Greene of the Archdiocese of Detroit.
