Kresta in the Afternoon – January 8, 2008 – Hour 2

  • Description:

First Topic – A Padre Pio Controversy

Plans to exhume Padre Pio - one of Italy's most popular saints - on the 40th anniversary of his death have been attacked by relatives and many of Italy’s faithful. Church authorities say they want to display the body for veneration by the faithful for several months, beginning in April. But Pio's relatives have threatened to take their local bishop to court if the corpse is removed from the church crypt in San Giovanni Rotondo in south Italy. What is the history and theology behind the idea of exhuming a body purely for veneration? Matthew Bunson sheds some light on this bizarre story.

Second Topic – Abortion: In the Trenches

Abortion is the morally defining issue of this generation. No topic receives more attention on “Kresta in the Afternoon” than that of the right to life. And as we know, this is not an academic discussion. It’s a real, tangible battle every day to save babies. Now we want to bring your attention to where talk ends and action begins - the battle in the trenches. We continue our series where we will highlight a specific need of a woman who has chosen life - A woman who walked out of an abortion clinic and now needs her decision supported.

Third Topic – A commitment to Scripture in the new year?

With a new year upon us, many of us have made a resolution to read more Scripture and develop a better understanding of the word of God. A tremendous aid in that most worthy endeavor has been provided by Ken Ogorek, Archdiocesan Director of Catechesis in the Archdiocese of Indianapolis. A resource that blends the lectionary approach to education with an objectively comprehensive catechesis. He is with us.
