Direct to My Desk: Helping the Addicted (full hour)
Description: Studies show that 70% of people arrested meet the medical criteria for drug addiction. The underlying addictions issues are not dealt with, leading to overcrowded jails and sky-high recidivism rates. How can families use a drug arrest as an intervention for a loved one in desperate need of help? What steps are being made to help prisoners with addictions? Mike Vasquez joins us to answer your questions.
For 20 years, Mike and Rose Marie Vasquez have been part of industry-changing, healthcare solutions. In that time, they founded companies that offered one of the first electronic medical-record systems in the United States and a solution for automating Medicare Part A to guard against fraud for more than 1,000 of the largest hospitals in the country. In 2005, their lives were deeply impacted when a dear family friend came to them with a devastating substance-abuse problem. Their search to find help left them with more questions than answers. Despite their efforts, their friend eventually lost his tragic battle. Moved by that experience, they felt that God was calling them to find an alternative for those who did not benefit from traditional treatment for substance abuse and to offer hope to people struggling with substance abuse. In January of 2007, St. Gregory Retreat Centers opened with the vision of offering the most successful, proprietary, and evidence-based therapies available for those who struggle with addiction. Our mission to empower people to transform their lives through faith, hope, and compassion.
