Kresta in the Afternoon – April 30, 2007 – Hour 2

  • Description:

First Segment - Evangelization, Conversion and the Crisis of Faith

The obstacles to converting people to the Catholic Faith in the modern world today are formidable. It is difficult to imagine a time since Luther's revolt when Catholicism has been more misrepresented and misunderstood, and more treated with contempt and indifference. Fr. John McCloskey and Russell Shaw - the priest and the journalist - have authored a book that shows how, despite these impediments, the Truth of the Catholic Faith can be made known to self-identified modern people through appeals to the intellect and the heart seeking understanding. Russell Shaw is our guest.

Second Segment - Ethical, moral questions over life support fight

Emilio Gonzales is a 17-month-old child currently on life support at Children’s Hospital of Austin.  Controversy surrounds the child as the hospital and mother are locked in a court battle over his fate. In the mean time, the ethical and moral questions over the life of Emilio Gonzales continue to take center stage.  Now, the Catholic Diocese of Austin has taken a stand. We talk with Dr. John Haas of the National Catholic Bioethics Center who advised the Bishop of Austin on this case.
