Kresta in the Afternoon – April 16, 2008 – Hour 1

  • Description:

First Topic – Papal Welcome at the White House

Last week, U.S. Rep. Thaddeus McCotter (R-MI) sponsored a resolution, passed by the House, welcoming the Holy Father to America. This morning he was a part of the official welcome at the White House for Pope Benedict XVI. We talk with him about the significance of the visit for him personally and in the political realm.

Second Topic – Benedict of Bavaria

Highlighting a little-known personal side of Joseph Ratzinger, Pope Benedict XVI, Brennan Purcell places the Holy Father in the context of his homeland, Bavaria - a place which Pursell has come to know well through extensive travel and study over the last twelve years. He shares the extraordinary brilliance of Pope Benedict's mind and the universality of his vocation within the context of his identity as a simple son of his beloved homeland, Bavaria.

Third Topic – Benedict and the Bishops

As Pope Benedict XVI prepared to address the Bishops of the United States this evening, we talk with Fr. Mitch Pacwa. What does he expect to hear from the Holy Father as he addresses the Bishops and what will the message of ecumenism be as he meets with other religious leaders later this week?
