+  Abortion vote approaches in Ireland

  • Description: Tomorrow Ireland will vote on whether to repeal the 8th Amendment, which currently prohibits abortion in most cases. If the "Yes" vote wins, Irish politicians will quickly draft legislation to grant unlimited abortion access for at least the first 12 weeks of pregnancy. A few months ago, the Yes campaign appeared headed for an easy victory - but the polls are tightening and at least 1 in 5 Irish remain undecided. Kevin Turley joins us.

    • Reformed: Memoir of a Juvenile Killer

As a child, Mario's home life was steeped in drug abuse and violence, leaving him broken and vulnerable. In an attempt to feel secure and empowered, he entered the drug world, a move that would forever change his destiny. Falling into the same patterns of dealing, robbing and harming others as those who had destroyed his family, Mario robbed, shot, and killed a twenty-seven-year-old drug dealer at age sixteen. Charged and convicted as an adult, he spent three years in solitary before the age of twenty-two. He served nineteen years in sixteen different adult prisons. During that time, he was kicked out of nine prisons and classified as incorrigible. Through maturity, the pain of imprisonment, and the nurturing of his parents, Mario found his purpose: to help others avoid a life of crime through education and self-improvement. Reformed presents the intimate success story of one inmate's transformation from prison to purpose. (learn more)
