  • Description: There was a time when Americans saw religious freedom as part of their common heritage, a principle that we teach to our children and all take pride in. Exporting religious freedom around the world was a main goal of the US after World War II. Contrast that with today, when many politicians want to reduce freedom of religion to freedom of worship, and the media frequently uses scare-quotes in religious freedom headlines. Is religious freedom still a part of our common heritage? We’ll talk about it with Daniel Philpott.

      Daniel Philpott is a Professor of Political Science at Notre Dame and the author of “Just and Unjust Peace: An Ethic of Political Reconciliation.” His research focuses on Religion and global politics and he has pursued an activist dimension of his work in reconciliation in Kashmir and the Great Lakes region of Africa. He’s the editor of Arc of the Universe, a blog about ethics and global justice.
