A History of the Popes in South America (2 segments)
Description: Pope Francis is in the midst of a visit to Chile and Peru. This is the first papal visit to Chile since John Paul II visited in 1987. During that visit, JPII spoke directly and firmly with dictator Augusto Pinochet about the importance of democracy, which was a recurring theme as he toured the country. Matthew Bunson joins us with a look at Francis’ current visit and at how the Church has helped promote democracy throughout South America.
