Kresta in the Afternoon – April 1, 2019 – Hour 2

+  Empowered by the Holy Spirit, Facing the Challenges of the Day

  • Description: We’re living through a time of crisis in the Church that is shaking the faith of many. At the same time, the wider culture is bolder and more aggressive than ever in its public opposition to the Judeo-Christian values that have been the foundation of our society. All the polls and social indicators are clear: we’re in the midst of a great social and cultural disruption and people feel it. Fear, confusion, anxiety, anger, and despair are on the rise. But we know that Jesus have given us all we need to take our place in this battle. That's the focus of this year's Renewal Ministries Gathering. We get a preview from Ralph Martin.

+  Confronting Old Testament Controversies (2 segments)

  • Description: How do we handle the "difficult" passages we find in Scripture, especially the Old Testament? Many times we tend toward one of two extremes - we either ignore the passages entirely, or obsess over them so much that we miss anything else. Tremper Longman joins us to help cut through the confusion and find clarity.

    • Confronting Old Testament Controversies

For many people, skeptics and believers alike, the Old Testament is rife with controversial passages and events that make both belief and sharing our beliefs with others difficult. Often our solutions have tended toward the extremes--ignore problem passages and pretend they don't matter or obsess over them and treat them as though they are the only thing that matters. Now with clarity of purpose and fidelity to the message and spirit of Scripture as a whole, Tremper Longman confronts pressing questions of concern to modern audiences, particularly young people in the church: - the creation/evolution debate - God-ordained violence - the historicity of people, places, and events - human sexuality Pastors, leaders in the church, and thoughtful and troubled Christians in the pews will find here a well-reasoned and faithful approach to dealing with the Old Testament passages so many find challenging or disconcerting.
