+  Detroit Mass Mob

  • Description: "Become a part of this wonderful effort to organizing a "Mass Mob" of church goers to show up at our city’s struggling historic churches. This simple concept started in Buffalo, NY a few years ago and has spread to many cities across the nation (check it out on the web). This concept was inspired by the popular "flash mobs" that are springing up via social networking. (A "flash mob" - is where a large group of people show up at a location for an event, often unannounced.) Our "Mass Mobs" will show up at a specific historic Church for a regular scheduled Mass. This will take place every month. Our intention is to show solidarity of our Catholic faith through respect for our old historic churches in the Archdiocese - and maybe across Michigan."

      Terra Sancta Pilgrimages

Father Alex Kratz, O.F.M., is a Franciscan priest in residence at St. Aloysius Parish in downtown Detroit. As a Franciscan friar, Fr. Alex also developed contacts among the Franciscan Friars of the Custody of the Holy Land—the official custodians of the Holy Places for the Catholic Church. While in the Holy Land father was asked to be chaplain for two pilgrimages and it was through this experience that he discovered a love and a call to serve as a pilgrimage Spiritual Director. It was this foundational experience that inspired him to start Terra Sancta Pilgrimages in 2008 to provide direct and creative “solidarity support” to the Church of Jerusalem.
