+  Behold Your Mother : A Biblical and Historical Defense of the Marian Doctrines

  • Description: "From the cross Jesus gave us his mother to be our mother, too: a singularly holy model, consoler, and intercessor for our spiritual journey. Yet most Protestants and too many Catholics don t understand the role that God wants her to play in our lives. In Behold Your Mother, Tim Staples takes you through the Church s teachings about the Blessed Virgin Mary, showing their firm Scriptural and historical roots and dismantling the objections of those who mistakenly believe that Mary competes for the attention due Christ alone. Combining the best recent scholarship with a convert s in-depth knowledge of the arguments, Staples has assembled the most thorough and useful Marian apologetic you ll find anywhere. He also shows how all the Marian doctrines are relevant even essential to a salvific faith in Jesus. From her divine maternity to her perpetual virginity, from her Immaculate Conception to her Assumption, the Church s core teachings about Mary are intertwined with the mysteries of Christ. In a word, Mary matters. Read Behold Your Mother and find out just how much." (Originally aired November 13, 2014)

Tim was raised a Southern Baptist. He was determined to prove Catholicism wrong, but he ended up studying his way to the last place he thought he would ever end up: the Catholic Church! He converted to Catholicism in 1988 and spent the following six years in formation for the priesthood, earning a degree in philosophy from St. Charles Borromeo Seminary in Overbrook, Pennsylvania. Realizing that his calling was not to the priesthood, Tim left the seminary in 1994 and has been working in Catholic apologetics and evangelization ever since.

+  Pro-Life Reaction to Colorado Planned Parenthood Shooting

  • Description: Bryan Kemper, youth outreach director for Priests for Life and founder of Stand True, issued the following statement regarding the shooting at Planned Parenthood in Colorado Springs: “Although we do not know the details behind the gun violence at Planned Parenthood in Colorado, it is important to say that we are against all violence against our fellow human persons. From the abortionist, the workers, the patients, the children scheduled to die or anyone at that Planned Parenthood, all of their lives are precious and worth saving. All of them are loved by God and deserve our prayers. I am sickened by the violence there today just as I am sickened by the violence there every day.” (Originally aired December 2, 2015)

+  Researcher: Study after study finding kids do best with married parents

  • Description: Three new pieces of scholarship released in recent weeks suggest that children do best with married parents and are more likely to face a host of challenges in other situations. W. Brad Wilcox, a sociologist at the University of Virginia, said that there is a “growing scientific consensus” that marriage and family structure are important for both children and parents, despite persistent efforts to claim otherwise. Writing in National Review Oct. 23, Wilcox said “study after study” is showing that children and families benefit from “strong and stable married families.” (Originally aired December 1, 2015)
