Bishop Hanchon, born in Jackson, Mich., was ordained a priest in Detroit on Oct. 19, 1974. He studied Hispanic culture in Mexico and San Antonio during the 1980s. Since that time, Bishop Hanchon has served as pastor of a number of parishes in Detroit’s Hispanic community. In September 2009, Bishop Hanchon was named episcopal vicar and regional moderator of the Central Region, which includes Detroit, Hamtramck and Highland Park.
