Title: WILLIAM BYRD – CATHOLIC MOTETS & ANTHEMS

Description:  In the 16th & 17th century, the music of the Catholic Church in England was officially suppressed by the King and Parliament. All liturgies – the Mass, the Office, the Rosary, the Sacraments were brought to a grinding halt. Monasteries were seized, churches were desecrated, and English Catholics became martyrs. And yet, the greatest and most prominent composers of the period were Catholics! Today, we briefly review some works by William Byrd, the Catholic composer of England.
