Kresta in the Afternoon – October 23, 2023 – Hour 1

Stephen White discusses what Pope Pius XII says about recovering our culture’s lost sense of sin, and Dr. Lawrence Feingold examines what St. Paul says about God’s covenant with Israel.

Fraternal Correction and Recovering our Sense of Sin

In a 1946 radio address, Pope Pius XII diagnosed one of the great problems in modern society – we have lost our sense of sin. Pope Francis echoed this point as well, warning us not to be like King David, who was blind to his own sin until the prophet Nathan opened his eyes. As Christians, it is our duty to fraternally correct our brothers and sisters when necessary. We talk about it with Stephen White.

What does St Paul have to say about Israel?

In Romans 11:29, St. Paul writes that “the Gifts and Callings of God are irrevocable.” What does that mean for God’s covenant with the Jewish people and promise of the Land of Israel? Dr. Larry Feingold joins us.

Dr. Lawrence Feingold is Associate Professor of Theology and Philosophy at Kenrick-Glennon Seminary in St. Louis. His essay The Return to the Land of Israel As an Eschatological Sign in the Light of Romans 11 is featured in the book Contemporary Catholic Approaches to the People, Land, and State of Israel.
