Kresta in the Afternoon – October 18, 2023 – Hour 1

We take a deep dive into what happened in the Christian Reformations with Carlos Eire.

Where to Begin with the Reformation?

The Reformation is one of the most misunderstood and challenging periods in religious history and the problems start with the term itself. There was not one “Reformation” but multiple Reformations occurring over two centuries, which all influenced each other. Carlos Eire gives us an overview of how they played out.

Dr. Carlos Eire is professor of History and Religious Studies at Yale University. His work specializes in the social, intellectual, religious, and cultural history of late medieval and early modern Europe, with a focus on both the Protestant and Catholic Reformations; the history of popular piety; and the history of the supernatural, and the history of death. He is the author of Reformations: The Early Modern World, and many others, including his most recent, They Flew: A History of the Impossible, and Waiting for Snow in Havana, which won the National Book Award in 2003 and tells the story of his childhood in Cuba before he was airlifted to the United States.
