Kresta in the Afternoon – May 21, 2021 – Hour 2

We look at the connections between the Abrahamic faiths with Gabriel Said Reynolds.

The Literary Connections between the Sacred Texts

While the Hebrew Bible and the New Testament are understood to be related texts, the sacred scripture of Islam, the third Abrahamic faith, has generally been considered separately. Many people don’t realize how Jewish and Christian figures, including the Blessed Mother, as well as other religious imagery feature prominently in the Qur’an. But the Qu’ran contains almost no direct quotes – so how did its author discover these figures? We’ll take a closer look with Dr. Gabriel Reynolds.

Gabriel Reynolds is a Professor of Islamic Studies and History of Christianity at Notre Dame, where his research focuses on the Quran and Muslim-Christian relations. He’s the author or editor of several books including The Quran and the Bible: Text and Commentary.
