Kresta in the Afternoon – May 19, 2021 – Hour 1

We meet the Monks of Tibhirine and Tim O’Malley asks if there is a crisis in parishes.

Who were the Monks of Tibhirine?

On the night of March 26, 1996, monks of the Catholic Order of Cistercians of the Strict Observance were kidnapped during the Algerian Civil War. They were murdered on May 21 of that year. John Kiser tells their story.

John Kiser is the author of The Monks of Tibhirine: Faith, Love, and Terror in Algeria.

Is the Catholic Parish in Crisis?

What is the future of the parish in a post-Christian world? It begins – and ends – with the Gospel. It means building on the idea that Catholicism is integral to human flourishing, and is dependent on taking Catholic belief and practice more seriously, rebuilding the parish within the neighborhood. Dr Tim O’Malley has more.
