Kresta in the Afternoon – June 29, 2021 – Hour 2

We continue our look at the Feast of Sts Peter and Paul. Thomas Craughwell tells the story of the search for St Peter’s Bones.

The Search for St. Peter’s Bones

It’s a story straight out of Indiana Jones. When architects told Pope Nicholas V in 1448 that the Basilica of St. Peter needed to be rebuilt, the catacomb of St Peter was paved over and lost to the ages. Centuries later, in 1939, the tomb was accidentally discovered again and Pope Pius XII authorized a secret investigation. We’ll share a discussion with the late Thomas Craughwell about this fascinating story.

Thomas Craughwell was the author of Saints Behaving BadlyUrban LegendsAlligators in the Sewer and 222 Other Urban LegendsSaints for Every Occasion: 101 of Heaven’s Most Powerful Patrons, and Do Blue Bedsheets Bring Babies? He wrote about saints for the the Wall Street JournalSt. Anthony Messenger, and Catholic Digest, and discussed saints on CNN and EWTN.
