 July 29, 1805 is the birthday of Alexis de Tocqueville. Who was he and why do we care? Tocqueville was a French political thinker best known for his Democracy in America. His work on the role of the state and democracy reveal amazing things about the role the Church has played in the betterment of human lives. We talk more with Bill Cook.

Tocqueville and the American Experiment 

William Cook is Professor Emeritus of History at State University of New York - Genesceo, where he taught on Medieval and Renaissance Europe and Church History. He is the president of the Bill Cook Foundation, which helps poor children in 29 countries go to school. Visit billcookfoundation.org. He is the author of several books including "The Medieval World View: An Introduction" and has hosted nine Great Courses lecture series.
