How High Does it Go? Top-Ranking Cleric Resigns over Sexual Misconduct

Monsignor Jeffrey Burrill, former general secretary of the U.S. bishops’ conference and the highest-ranking non-bishop cleric in the US, announced his resignation today. It follows an investigation in which The Pillar found evidence he engaged in serial sexual misconduct, while he held a critical oversight role in the Catholic Church’s response to the recent spate of sexual abuse and misconduct scandals. Matthew Bunson has the details and Al shares his own thoughts on the story.
