#15 – What Role does Myth play in Society?

In the words of CS Lewis, “God is more than a god, not less; Christ is more than Balder, not less. We must not be ashamed of the mystical radiance resting on our theology. We must not be nervous about parallels and ‘pagan Christs’: they ought to be there it would be a stumbling block if they weren’t. We must not, in false spirituality, withhold our imaginative welcome.” Some of our most well-known myths come from the Romans and Greeks. What role did these tales play in ancient society and what use do we have for them today? Dr Louis Markos is our guest.

Louis Markos is the author of several books including The Myth Made Fact: Reading Greek and Roman Mythology through Christian Eyes and Atheism on Trial: Refuting the Modern Arguments against God. He’s a professor of English and scholar in residence at Houston Baptist University and has delivered hundreds of lectures worldwide on topics such as apologetics, CS Lewis, and Dante.
