“Kresta in the Afternoon”—August 7, 2014

Talking about the “things that matter most” on August 7

Guest host Marybeth Hicks

4:00 – Momnipotent: The Not-so Perfect Guide to Catholic Motherhood

In “Momnipotent”, Danielle Bean provides much-needed encouragement to all women. “Momnipotent” validates the dignity and importance of motherhood by helping mothers to recognize eight uniquely feminine strengths, and how to use those strengths to find peace, purpose, balance, and joy in being the woman God created and called them to be. Danielle joins the show today.

4:40 – Michigan Twins Ordained to Priesthood

Twin brothers Gary and Todd Koenigsknecht have spent their entire lives together. They both worked on their family farm and graduated at the top of their high school class. In June they were both ordained to the priesthood and are now among the 22 priests who hail from Fowler, Michigan, a town of less than 1500 residents. Nationwide, new vocations to the priesthood are becoming rarer. There are not enough young, new priests to replace the older generation of priests as they retire. Craig Pohl, Director of the New Evangelization for the Diocese of Lansing, joins us to discuss the twins’ story and the need for new priestly vocations.

5:00 – Michigan abortion facility to become property of Catholic Church.

The last freestanding abortion clinic in Lansing, Michigan will close this fall, and the building will be leased out by a Catholic church. The top floor of the building will be used by Church of the Resurrection and the rest of the building will belong to a pro-life group. Fr. Steve Mattson, pastor of Church of the Resurrection, joins us.

5:40 – Previewing the Image and Reality conference

In our media-saturated world we are constantly bombarded with images. These images give us a false perception of reality—we expect to be successful without working, women think they should look like supermodels and men think they deserve the same. Our girls want to be like Miley Cyrus and our men want to remain boys. How can we find the real God in an unreal world? Teresa Tomeo joins us to discuss the issue and preview the August 14 Image and Reality conference, where we will explore the problem even further.
