Kresta in the Afternoon – August 30, 2023 – Hour 1

We examine the opening verses of the Gospel of John with Anthony Esolen.

Kresta Comments: Are we the Unforgiving Servant?

We all know the parable of the unforgiving servant, who tormented a fellow servant over a small debt just after his master forgave him of a much larger debt. It’s easy to be disgusted at his actions, but we must be careful lest we make his mistakes ourselves. Al reflects further on this passage.

In the Beginning was the Word: Understanding John’s Gospel

Although all the Gospels are rich in theology, it is the Gospel of John that stands out in making the point that Christ is not just the last of the Prophets; He is the Creator of Earth and Heaven. So much can be gleaned from the first 18 verses alone. Anthony Esolen is our guest.

Dr Anthony Esolen is an author and social commentator currently serving as writer-in-residence at Magdalen College of the Liberal Arts in Warner, New Hampshire. He's the author of many books including "In the Beginning Was the Word: An Annotated Reading of the Prologue of John" and "No Apologies: Why Civilization Depends on the Strength of Men." He's also launching a new online magazine, Word and Song, which can be found at anthonyesolen.substack.com.
