Mark Movsesian is Professor of Contract Law at St John's University in New York, where he also co-directs the Center for Law and Religion. He has been a visiting professor at Notre Dame and Cardozo Law Schools and delivered papers at numerous workshops in the US and Europe. Professor Movsesian serves on the board of editors of the Journal of Law and Religion (Cambridge). Doctors Transplanted a Pig Kidney into a Brain-Dead Patient – What are the Ethical Concerns?

Last month doctors transplanted a genetically-modified pig kidney into a brain-dead patient, and as of last week the new organ is still working. The patient has been maintained on a ventilator and given fluids to sustain his body. This case presents significant bioethical concerns, especially regarding the meaning of brain-death.
