Kresta in the Afternoon – April 15, 2024 – Hour 2

Gary Anderson explains the importance of the Tabernacle to our faith today and Daniel Markham takes us on a trip to celebrate Mass in all 50 states.

I Went to Mass in all 50 States. Here’s what I Saw

Every day, the same Mass is celebrated all over the world. As members of the Church universal, we are united in the liturgy by hearing the same readings and reciting the same prayers. Daniel Markham went on a journey across the US to experience the Mass in every state. He shares his experience with us.

Daniel Markham is a lifelong Catholic and 30-year professional writer. Those two facets of his life came together over the course of 2021 and 2022 when he traveled the country attending Mass for the stories contained inside 52 Masses: A Journey to Experience Catholicism Across America. What does Israel’s tabernacle mean for Christians today?

The Book of Leviticus isn’t exactly the most exciting book in the Bible, and it’s one we often find ourselves skimming through or skipping altogether. But it’s in these verses that we find crucial details for the construction and use of the Tabernacle, which in turn deepens our understanding of the Gospel. Gary Anderson joins us with more.

Dr. Gary Anderson is the author most recently of That I May Dwell among Them: Incarnation and Atonement in the Tabernacle Narrative. He’s Hesburgh Professor of Catholic Thought at the University of Notre Dame, and his primary fields of study include Christianity and Judaism in Antiquity. His other books include “Sin: A History” and “Charity: The Place of the Poor in the Biblical Tradition.”
