Kresta in the Afternoon – April 13, 2021 – Hour 2

George Marsden discusses religion and culture in the US.

The Relationship Between Religion and Culture in America

Religion plays a unique role in American culture. Even with the rise of the Nones, a higher percentage of Americans identify as religious compared to most western countries. But many aspects of American culture have long been secularized and it’s hard to find a field – whether it be entertainment, academia or the law – where one can honestly say Christians have a strong influence. We take a deeper look at the relationship between religion and culture in America with historian George Marsden.

George Marsden is the author of several books, most recently Religion and American Culture: A Brief History. He is Professor Emeritus at Notre Dame and now a Distinguished Scholar in the History of Christianity at Calvin Theological Seminary.
