Among the eight victims of the Georgia spa shootings on March 16 was Detroit native Paul Andre Michels.
Michels, 54, was killed at Youngs Asian Massage parlor in Acworth, Georgia at around 4:50 p.m., where he had been doing some work as part of a side-job, said his younger brother, John Michels. He was one of two non-Asian Americans murdered during the string of attacks.
“My brother was a wonderful guy,” John Michels said. “Nice guy, very good, hard working, dedicated to his wife, dedicated to his family and he worked very hard.”
Growing up in southwest Detroit, Paul Michels was the seventh out of nine children. He attended Chadsey High School and served in the U.S. Army in the infantry from 1985 to 1989.
He moved to Georgia in 1995 after John Michels suggested he came to work with him in the security system business. They worked for Cambridge Security Systems.
