SVdP Journey to Housing Dinner Auction

We are organized to help the homeless in western Wayne County Michigan. The Journey to Housing Program, is a Special Work of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul. We follow the Housing First Philosophy, which recognizes the benefits of placing homeless individuals and families in their own home as rapidly as possible. Once a family has been selected for the Program, we help them find a suitable home, we pay all move-in costs, and we pay 50% of their rent for the first 6 months. These rent subsidies are reduced as the family gains financial and emotional independence. To assist the family in achieving these goals, we also provide weekly, in-home case management by certified social workers with training in life-skill development.

Thanks be to God, in the year and a half that we have been established, we have successfully housed 7 families, and our 8th family has just been accepted in to the Program. Our first two families have successfully exited the Program and are maintaining their homes independent of Journeys. Another family has just been pre-approved to purchase their own home. With much hard work, this is a program that works to establish independence and dignity in formerly homeless individuals and families.
