Sunday of the Veneration of the Cross w/Holy Anointing

The Sunday of the Veneration of the Holy Cross is a day in the Byzantine Church when the cross of Jesus Christ is honored. It takes place on the third Sunday of Great Lent.
Purpose
To prepare for the Crucifixion
To strengthen the faithful to finish Lent
To remind people that they must take up their cross to be saved
To remember that Christ’s death on the cross offers hope of resurrection
Services
The cross is placed in the middle of the church
There is a special veneration of the cross
What to expect
People may kneel before the cross and kiss it
People may recite the words, “Behold, the wood of the cross”
People may sing with joy
Message
The cross is a symbol of Christ’s victory over sin and death
The cross is a gift that brings blessings to people through their faith
The cross is a reminder that people can turn to God with repentance and receive forgiveness
